Basement window and code-compliant egress system

Installed by Under Construction, LLC - York, PA  website

September 2007

We ran into a rock ledge that had to be jacked out...
...for proper clearance for drainage stone backfill...

The opening is laid out, inside and out, then cut with
a diamond blade gas-powered demo saw.  Lots of dust!

The steel-reinforced concrete lintel is heaved into placed!
This one was actually two pieces so it was easier to handle.

Clean stone backfill for proper drainage.
The dirt is screened then used to "top off" the stone backfill.

The system is anchored to the basement wall and supported
from the bottom with blocks.  Note the bracing to maintain
square while the stone backfill is shoveled in.

Note the polycarbonate dome cover to keep out snow,
rain and large debris.  It is not a security feature.

From the inside, lots of bright light and fresh air
through this code-compliant egress window system.

The window is ThermaStar by Pella
4' x 4', vinyl slider with screen.
