Diver Propulsion Vehicle (DPV) Specialty Class, Bainbridge Scuba Center - July 26, 2008 A lesson in lead-acid battery life directed me to Battery Warehouse in York to replace the two OEM batteries for my Sea-doo VS-Supercharged Sea Scooters. One of the units was giving me intermittent cut-outs last year but I avoided the issue. Now with two students on the hook, I needed to get the matter solved. Tech support for the scooter was responsive, and directed me to send the unit to them in California with a $100 diagnostic fee. After that, it was anyone's guess what my cost would be to fix this $399 retail scooter. So I deployed my handy voltmeter and determined that both batteries were not up to snuff, and heeded the red, blinky warning signs displayed by both battery chargers during the charging cycle. Without a local Sea-doo dealer to bail me out, I found the OEM batteries on-line, with the proprietary leads attached ready to go, for $89 each plus shipping. Ouch! Battery Warehouse in York took care of me for $43 each; the only catch was I had to attach the leads to the new battery spade connectors. My Weller soldering gun made quick work of the leads switch, the batteries charged properly, and I was in business. Rob M. of Lancaster and Anthony P. of Uniontown were my signed and sealed students through York Divers for this PADI specialty training. They did two training dives successfully with the newly powered scooters and had a blast. Rob said if his wife gets a hold of one of these scooters he is sure to own a pair in short order. If you are interested in this specialty training class, contact York Divers at 717-846-0400 to sign up. $135pp, includes student manual, DVD and c-card. Two training dives at Bainbridge Scuba Center will be required (BSC admission fee not included).
