Advanced Open Water, Bainbridge Scuba Center, Aug. 22-23, 2008 Jamie S. and Marisa C. completed their AOW training this weekend with five dives; Peak Performance Buoyancy, UW Navigation, Dive Propulsion Vehicle, Deep and UW Digital Photography. Saturday was certainly acceptable for our first three dives but Sunday was a hallmark beautiful day with gorgeous sunshine and blue sky. The UW Photo Dive was the last dive of our weekend with nice overhead sunlight to brighten things up. Jamie and Marisa shared my camera rig, one at a time of course, while the other scooted around us on the DPV. They started with my Sony DSC-P10 in the Sony Marine Pak housing, shooting off hand with only ambient light, to depths of 15' in the Lagoon. Only two adjustments were made to the camera settings for the first "point-n-shoot" mode. I then added a Sea & Sea 16mm wide angle lens to change the pic composition via angle of view and available light (the wide angle lens just "grabs" light), and turned off the on-board flash. Last, I dropped the camera with the wide angle lens onto my Ultra Light pivoting tray with an Ikelite DS-125 strobe with manual EV controller. Here, the flash was "forced" on (to fire the strobe) and the camera EV was set to its minimum, -2.0, so the image would not be overexposed after being bathed in strobe light. The girls did a nice job with the camera, snapping pics continuously, while working on their positioning and buoyancy control. Their pics are shown below, separated by camera configuration. This was a nice relaxing dive around the Lagoon since the vis in the Bowl was less than desirable. We were in the water just over an hour!

Camera with wide angle lens Notice the difference in overall lighting, just by adding the wide angle lens to "capture more light" and increase field of view.
Pics with camera, wide angle lens, tray handle with strobe and manual EV
controller. This rig is decidedly heavier and forces better buoyancy control.
