Ice Diving at Bainbridge Scuba Center, 17-18Feb07

According to Steve, Bainbridge Scuba Center has frozen only five times in the past 25 years that it has been open as a scuba diving site.  Three of those five frozen years were 2003, 2004 and 2007!  Keep your head down, global warming IS coming!  :o)

On Saturday, Mark Beaverson and I took two dips in BSC after cutting an appropriate access.  Dennie Leese had four ice studs, uh, students, braving the 39F water.  Day 2 is planned for Sunday, 18Feb07.  I logged two more dives toward my Ice Instructor cert, a total of 50 minutes run time in 39F water - NICE!

It was a great day on Sunday too.  Jim Weakland and Paul Gower joined me in the ice triangle from Saturday.  The edges thinned out a bit but were sufficient to support us and our gear.  Dennie took his class to the Lagoon in favor of shallower depths and farther runs on the 130' tethers.  I logged two more dives toward my Ice Instructor cert, with just four more to go.  Today was 46 minutes total run time in 39F ice-covered water - NICE again!

Mark & I cut the near hole; Dennie et al used the far hole.

We're done with our access so we surrounded it with branches as a safety warning.
